Dharma Bums

Just a few photos of my home before I go. The road is life:)

Jugoton Bollywood

On Thursday, June 7th, I'll DJ at Jalla Jalla as Shanti Priya. This means I'll play my favorite music: bollywood. I'll DJ along Bojana, also known as Cica Mica Šlagerica, who plays old Yugoslavian evergreens. I listened to her mix and it's awesome, I'm really looking forward to play with her- it's a combination that has probably never happened before :)
This is the flyer she made for our event:

On the flyer you can see the mighty Amitabh Bachchan, probably the most important Indian actor (his crown was taken recently by Shah Rukh Khan, but for many, he is still the king) and the woman bellow him is Helen, the hottest and trashiest girl in Bollywood. Both photos are from the 1978's cult action movie Don.

Don is the most powerful man in the business of crime, who in spite of being one of the most wanted on the list of Interpol, remains elusive to the police. He is a super villain. A smooth criminal. Bollywood movies always have happy ends. Don has a happy end for the bad guy:)

In the year 2006 the remake of the film came out. I was in India at that time and that was actually the first Bollywood movie I'd seen in my life. Action is not really my favorite genre, but this one had so many funny punch-lines and a super sexy cast that I couldn't dislike it. So this is where it all began for me :)

One of my favorite songs from Don is Khaike Paan Banaraswala. It's about getting high on paan (a stimulating, psychoactive preparation of betel leaf combined with areca nut and tobacco).
"Eating paan from Banaras opens up the locks in your brain."

The first video is from the 1978's version of the movie with Amitab Bachchan and the second one from 2006's with Shah Rukh Khan. The old king versus the new king!

The second song is Yeh Mera Dil, it was a big hit both times. The first version is sung by the legendary Asha Bhosle. Who else can match her sexy voice than Helen, the sexiest actress of the time?  The second version is sung by Sunidhi Chauhan and Helen's role was taken by Kareena Kapoor.
The girl in the video is Kamini, the fiancee of a guy Don killed. She tries to seduce him and then turn him in to the police, but he realizes her plan and kills her.

In 2011 the sequel of Don came out. Don 2. Again, I was in India and watched the movie. It doesn't have cool music but Don is still the No.1 bad ass. With an attitude and lots of style:)

For the end, Cica Mica Šlagerica's mix with evergreens from Yugoslavia:

So, Metelkova, Jalla Jalla, June 7th at 21.00.- come and play :)
